Chaka Khan Foundation Honors

Eight-time Grammy winner Chaka Khan hosted the 2nd Annual Gala Dinner benefiting her Chaka Khan Foundation on May 21 at the private estate of Richard and Daphna Ziman in Beverly Hills. With Tisha Campbell Martin acting as Mistress of Ceremony, the event recognized two community leaders. Magic Johnson, founder of the Magic Johnson Foundation and supporter of the Magic Johnson Foundation Taylor Michaels Scholarship Program, was honored with the Mentor Award. Kenny G, founder of the Kenny G Miracles Foundation. Received the Community Award for his contributions to the arts and children’s iniatives. Chaka performed cuts from her Sanctuary Urban CD ClassicKhan and also joined Kenny G in a duet for the gala that helped raise funds for the non-profit foundations Chaka launched in 1999 to assist women and children at risk and support autism research, awareness and therapy. One in every 166 children are now born with autism, compared to one in 2500 ten years ago. The foundation had already raised more than $1.4 million.
